CONTACT’s 7th Annual Coats for Kids Drive
Help Keep A Child Warm This Winter!
With the cold weather fast approaching, CONTACT and The Clothes Line are asking the community to help keep a child warm this winter by donating to its annual Coats for Kids Drive.
Starting October 7 and running till October 15, donations of good quality, new or gently used children’s coats, hats, scarves, and mittens can be dropped off at The Clothes Line, 55 Victoria Street West, Alliston.
Please note that donations will only be accepted during regular store hours
(Mon. to Thu. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Fri. 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Sat 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) and must be clearly marked as a “Coats for Kids” donation. Store volunteers and staff will be available to accept donations for the Drive.
For those in need of children’s winter clothing, donated items will be available for pick up at The Clothes Line from October 17 to November 5, during regular store hours.
CONTACT and The Clothes Line hopes that everyone will join them in making a difference in the community by ensuring that every child has a warm coat to wear during the cold winter months.

You’re Invited! Bradford Works Open House
bradford WORKS is pleased to announce that it will be hosting an Open House on Thursday, October 20, 2011, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at its Community Employment Centre at 95 Holland Street West, Unit 105, Bradford.
bradford WORKS is a “one-stop” community employment centre that offers free access to a full range of services and programs for job seekers and employers in Bradford West Gwillimbury. The centre provides job seekers access to computers, individual one-on-one employment support and employment related workshops. bradford WORKS also offers professional employment services to local employers including free job posting services, job matching/placement support, and access to training and employment incentives. Operated by CONTACT Community Services, a non-profit registered charity, bradford WORKS is an Employment Ontario project that is funded in part by the Government of Canada.
At the Open House, members of the public will have the opportunity to tour the newly renovated centre, enjoy some light refreshments, and learn about the full range of services offered to job seekers and employers in the Bradford West Gwillimbury community.

Hogs & Frogs Charity Ride & BBQ
The Blue Frog Café and Marketplace is jumping at a chance to team up for a second year with staff from the FSCO – Financial Services Commission of Ontario (an agency of the Minister of Finance) to raise funds and awareness for the United Way’s 2011 Campaign.
The FSCO ‘Hogs’ will be wheeling into The Blue Frog Café and Marketplace located at 41 Victoria Street East, Alliston on Friday, September 16, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Rain date: September 23).
The BBQ will be fired up and ready to serve sausages on a bun and homemade BBQ Pizza.
Proceeds from the BBQ and all café sales for the day will be donated
to the United Way.
So hop on over to The Blue Frog Café and enjoy some great food, fun, and entertainment!

Members of the public are invited to attend CONTACT’s Annual General Meeting on Thurs., June 30, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at CONTACT, Community Service Centre South Simcoe, Town Square, 2nd Floor Conference Room, 39 Victoria St. E., Alliston.
The purpose of the meeting is:
1) To receive the consolidated financial statements of the organization for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2011 together with the auditor’s report therein
2) To elect the directors of the organization for the ensuing year
3) To appoint the auditors of the organization
4) To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting or any adjournment thereof

CONTACT Community Services is pleased to announce that with the generous support of the Alliston Fire Fighters’ Association, local kids will get a kick out of cooking this summer!
KICK (Kids in the Community Kitchen) is a free program that provides children aged 8 to 13 years a fun and interactive way to learn about healthy eating, cooking skills,
meal preparation and physical activity
in a safe, friendly and supportive environment.
“The Alliston Fire Fighters’ Association is committed to enhancing the quality of life of our local youth by supporting community initiatives like KICK,” says Trevor Holmes, President of the Alliston Fire Fighters’ Association, “With funds raised through our youth dances, we were able to provide this support that will help young people in our community develop lifelong skills around cooking, nutrition, and healthy living.”
“We want to express our sincere appreciation to the Alliston Fire Fighters’ Association for their generous donation to our KICK program.” says Sandra Mawby, Co-Executive Director of CONTACT, “With their support we will be able to offer free summer camps that will help kids learn that healthy eating, being involved in the kitchen and participating in physical activities can be fun!”
The KICK Program will be offering four free Summer Camps in July and August (July 12 to July 14; July 19 to 21; Aug. 16 to 18; Aug. 23 to 25)
Each camp session runs for three days, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes tasty meals, fun games and activities about food, nutrition and being active.

CONTACT Announces Change in Leadership
CONTACT is sorry to announce that current Executive Director, Lianne Picot is leaving the organization as of April 15, 2011, to take on the role of Executive Director at Future Possibilities for Kids, an organization offering mentoring support for children and youth across central and southwestern Ontario.
Over the past five years, Lianne’s vision and inspired leadership has been the driving force in creating an organization that is recognized for its outstanding and progressive community services.
To build on its already significant success, CONTACT has appointed two Co-Executive Directors. This new and innovative shared leadership structure is reflective of CONTACT’s commitment to creating a culture of collaboration and partnership within the organization and in our community.
Sandra Mawby will take on the role of Co-Executive Director of Services and Development.
Liz Beattie will take on the role of Co-Executive Director of Operations.

ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge
ChangeTheWorld – Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge is a call to action for youth aged 14 to 18 years to volunteer through a wide variety of exciting community initiatives. The goal is to inspire youth to volunteer in our communities, develop new skills, and broaden their awareness of community service organizations. This year, 21 volunteer centres are participating across Ontario and we hope to, once again, surpass the goal of 10,000 youth volunteering for a minimum of three hours over the three weeks.
